like only she can do it

Click on any photo to enlarge it (especially the older ones)

If you're lucky, you had at least one. Maybe even two. Mine were Granmama & Gran. I lost one when I was only in 4th grade and the other stayed with us until 2003.

Granmothers are the best and many, many times a day I will remember something that she did or said and it makes me smile . . . or cry. Random thoughts enter my mind and I am suddenly there with her at the long kitchen table learning the art of make-up application- my favorite process was rouge (who wears rouge anymore?) And when I smell Ponds Cold Cream I can see the pink jar on her counter top.

One would pick butter beans, go fishing in the pond, bring live monkeys over to play, and buy me collector dolls-not to be played with. While the other would decorate Easter eggs, build forts, play store with real money, and let me drink milk from her collectible tea cups. I'll never forget them or ever be able to fill that place they made in my soul.

There's something about the way that Granmommys do it, that is so much better than anyone else. Her sandwiches are better, her forts are bigger, her (garage sale) toys are more fun . . . and I'm having a BLAST watching my mother assume her position with such flair. And seeing the new 'Gran' in my world have elaborate conversations about Dora & Princesses with the only Bagwell girl, is a thrill (Gran's been surrounded by boys her whole life). These women play a HUGE role in the lives of my babies . . . and all of their moments spent together will be treasured, always. I love you Gran & Granmama, and Gran & Granmommy
oh yeah, there's stuff on grandaddies too . . .

i feel so fortunate that i still have ONE grandmother. i watch the 2 grandmother's in my children's lives and am amazed at how different they are.

i know they will each give them something that the other can't.

thanks for reminding me to thank the one that i have.

This is soooo super sweet, and SO TRUE! I lost a Grandmother in January of this year. Todd's mom passed when Garrett was 8 months old. My mom is as involved as she can be and she (and we) love every minute of it!

I am SO BLESSED to have both of my grandmothers! Meme is 84 and Grandma just turned 90! Love them to pieces! One took me to get my ears pierced and bought me tons of costume jewelry...the other played cards with me, let me use the "gold" spoon, and let me put as much sugar on my puffed wheat as I wanted! Love grandmothers, and love that my mom is the BEST to my Molly!

Grandmothers are great!! I still have both of mine, which means my kids still have their Great Grandmothers -- actually, Brian still has both his grandmother's as well, so our kids have FOUR GREAT GRANDMOTHERS alive.

Every time we are around them I take pic of them together..you never know when they will pass on, and the kids are so small they most likely won't rem. them once they dont see them...it is important :)

Nice post!
