Disgusting huh? What's most disgusting is that probably 1/4 of that trash is coming from my house. Now, I recycle glass & plastics and re-use grocery bags and stuff like that. We even changed out just about every light in our house to those energy-saving, cost efficient bulbs, but I also throw away about 115 dirty diapers a week. I waste paper towels and get way too many catalogs & mailings that just fill my trashcans. So it feels like my simple recycling efforts are canceled out. Got any solutions?
I don't want to be a 'dirty girl' any longer. And while I'm not on the global warming bandwagon (not really even sure what it is) I do want to leave a cleaner earth for my children & grandchildren to enjoy. I do believe that our generation has totally taken advantage of the gift we've been given. We take a lot and give very little back- just enough to easy our conscience. Maybe I should grow my own food, buy some sheep to spin wool and knit my own sweaters. I'll make bars of soap in my kitchen and use only vinegar to clean my house. I'll load both my children on a bicycle with me and save $hundreds on gas . . . sounds lovely, huh? (Maybe if I were Laura Ingles and didn't have a Target 1 mile from my doorstep that begs me to visit once a week).
I can't save the planet today, but I did drop off my recycling this morning and now I'll go water my tomato plants (just the plant not my yard, we're in a drought, ya know) .

Kristen, I share the desire to be a little "greener"! I saw a lot of little books on the subject at Barnes and Noble, but haven't bought any yet. Wish I could go cloth on the diapers, but selfishly I just can't take that plunge yet! I'll let you know if I come across any good tips!
Too much to think about for me....just do what you can! The lightbulbs, recycling, etc....it's a start!
that's right ... at least you are conscience of it! that's more than i can say for some people!!!
let me know if you come up with some easy, but helpful things i can do besides the obligatory plastic, cardboard, paper stuff....
115 diapers?? What are you feeding your kids Kristen? :) I dont think I ever ever used that many ( well, i'd have to divide that in 1/2 b/c I never had 2 in diapers at the same time!)--holy cow.
I agree with you though. We recycle thru our trash service, but that is about it. Lately I have been thinking hard about getting the canvas bags for the grocery store. So much plastic is going to waste.
Great to keep up with you! Take care :)
